Position description
The Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body and is seeking outstanding candidates in Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health across a broad range of research areas.
UC San Diego offers a highly collaborative environment with strong infrastructure and opportunities for translational, clinical, implementation, global health, and laboratory-based research.
Successful candidates will develop innovative, collaborative, and impactful research programs that complement and strengthen the Division’s broader research portfolio. In addition, the successful candidates will be responsible for the teaching and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students, residents, trainees, and Infectious Diseases fellows, and play integral roles in the continued growth, innovation, and collaborative culture of the Division. Clinician candidates may also have the opportunity to provide clinical care to patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting, depending on the department’s needs and the candidate’s training and experience in the relevant clinical area.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience.

Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.

Qualifications
Candidates must have an MD or equivalent, a PhD or equivalent, or an MD/PhD in the area of Infectious Diseases or a related field.
Candidates with an MD or equivalent must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
Candidates with clinical care duties must have an MD or equivalent and be board-certified or board-eligible in Infectious Disease and other related fields.
Candidates with a demonstrated record of scholarship in infectious diseases, global public health, translational science, implementation science, epidemiology, immunology, virology, microbiology, or related disciplines.
Candidates with experience in collaborative research, teaching, mentorship, and service are preferred.
Candidates with experience obtaining independent funding are preferred.
