Position description
The Department of Physics within the Division of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego occasionally has openings for temporary, non-tenure track lecturers throughout the academic year. The most frequent need is for individuals to teach large-enrollment introductory physics courses for life sciences majors (Physics 1A/1B/1C), engineering and science students (Physics 2A/2B/2C), and non-science majors (Physics 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13). Additional teaching opportunities in other physics courses may arise based on departmental needs.
Appointments may be part-time or full-time and can range from a single academic quarter to a full year.
The Department is committed to academic excellence and diversity within its faculty, staff, and student body. Successful candidates will be evaluated based on their scientific background, teaching accomplishments, and potential for leadership in areas that contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and aligned with the University of California pay scale.
These positions primarily focus on teaching physics courses, particularly introductory laboratory and lecture courses for non-majors. There may also be opportunities for involvement in related activities, such as curriculum development and teaching assistant training.
