Position description

The Preuss School at UC San Diego (http://preuss.ucsd.edu/) is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for low-income scholars who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. As a department within UC San Diego Academic Affairs, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop the best practices in preparation of scholars of diverse and under represented backgrounds to access higher education.

Under directions of leadership, in the absence of the classroom teacher, provide instruction, encourage student progress, and manage the learning environment. Demonstrate professional teaching practices using course of study provided by the regular classroom teacher. Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in State law and administrative regulations. Adapt subject material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students. Encourage students to think independently and express original ideas. Ability to understand the mission, goals, and objectives of The Preuss School.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Bachelor's degree in any subject.
  • Current California Teaching Credential: 30-day Emergency Substitute Teaching Permit or Single Subject teaching credential in any subject.
  • Minimum of one year teaching and classroom management experience for Grade 6-12 level.
  • minimum of one year teaching as a Substitute Teacher.
