Position description
Weather and Climate Extreme Events - Full Professor
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at UC San Diego invites applications for the faculty position described below. We seek a motivated, broad-thinking scientist/educator to establish a vigorous research program and provide intellectual leadership in their field while complementing existing expertise at SIO and other UC San Diego departments. SIO is a world-renowned center of oceanographic, atmospheric, biological, and solid earth research with approximately 200 principal investigators leading research programs. We are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to inclusive excellence by providing leadership in teaching, mentoring, research, and service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
We seek outstanding candidates for a position to be filled at the Full Professor level. We seek applicants pursuing innovative research activities in weather and climate extreme events, with a preference for applicants whose research focus includes atmospheric extreme events in the Western US. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong extramurally supported research program that complements existing atmosphere, ocean, and climate science research at SIO. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to teaching the Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences curriculum for undergraduate students and the Climate Sciences curriculum for graduate students.
