Position description

The Rady School of Management (https://rady.ucsd.edu) and the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science (https://hwsph.ucsd.edu) at UC San Diego are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invite applications for a new joint appointed Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position as part of the Chancellor’s Joint FTE Hires Initiative. Chancellor’s Joint Hires are intended to augment, enhance, and/or leverage the traditional allocation of FTEs in order to achieve strategic priorities, by encouraging joint faculty hires across the major academic segments of campus.

This joint FTE appointment between The Rady School of Management and The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health (HWSPH) will be focusing in Healthcare Management Science, a rapidly growing, interdisciplinary field that aims to advance knowledge of how to more efficiently design and manage the delivery of healthcare services in both developed and emerging economies. A partnership between the School of Management and School of Public Health will leverage the former’s expertise in healthcare operations with the latter’s expertise in health policy and health services evaluation and will apply bidirectional, enhanced discipline on research and a significant improvement in translational impact as measured by implementation in healthcare clinical settings and the evolution of health policy.

With tremendous potential for interdisciplinary research in the science of healthcare operations and delivery, some relevant topics to this position include: stochastic processes, optimization, strategic patient modeling, management information systems, and development, implementation and evaluation of health care policies and practices.

We seek candidates whose research, teaching, and service will advance UC San Diego’s efforts toward Enriching Human Life and Society. Teaching responsibilities will be through both the School of Management and School of Public Health. This joint search aims to hire faculty who will continue educating tomorrow’s leaders in healthcare and public health, empowering them with an interdisciplinary perspective of the interaction between healthcare operations and healthcare policy and an understanding of insights from recent advances in healthcare management sciences.
