Position title: Surgical Scientists
Salary range: The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and/or step. The base pay range for this position is $175,000 - $450,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan. Position description

The Department of Surgery (https://surgery.ucsd.edu/index.html), Division of Surgical Sciences is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body.

We seek faculty to join a highly interdisciplinary program within the UC San Diego, Department of Surgery, dedicated to advancing the detection and treatment of surgical diseases.

The successful candidates will be responsible for research related to surgically managed diseases, teaching and university service, and/or the clinical care of patients.

The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level and the series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have a PhD in biological sciences or similar areas, and/or a MD or equivalent.

Candidates with a MD or equivalent with clinical duties must be Board certified or Board eligible in a surgical specialty and must also be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.

Candidates with established, independent and extramurally-funded research programs focusing on basic science and/or related to health services/population science research relevant to surgically managed diseases are preferred.
