Position description

The Department of Literature seeks to appoint a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Latin American Literature & Cultural Studies. The candidate must specialize in the cultural production of the Southern Cone with an emphasis on issues of gender & sexuality and their intersection with discussions of feminism, race, and class. We are particularly interested in candidates versed in the intellectual traditions of the region and able to bring the area’s unique social and political realities to the conversation on gender & sexuality. Knowledge of the cultural dynamics between the Southern Cone and Brazil is a plus. Salary and level of appointment are based on qualifications and UC pay scale. Proof of authorization to work in the U.S. will be required prior to employment period (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1985).

A strong historical and interdisciplinary approach is essential. Research potential, as demonstrated by publications, is expected.

Required qualifications include:
• Ph.D. in Spanish completed by the time of appointment (July 1, 2020)
• Concentration in, or experience teaching, Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies, (19th century to the present)
• Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish
• Track record of successful teaching as evidenced by student evaluations
• Ability to teach courses in English in addition to Spanish
