Position description

The Division of Nephrology-Hypertension at the University of California, San Diego (http://med.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and is recruiting an academic nephrologist for a faculty position.

There is substantial debate about the appropriate targets and methods to address hypertension in older persons, which can be best addressed through conduct of clinical trials. This position seeks to fill that need.

The clinic nephrology consult service at UC San Diego involves considerable use of plasmapheresis.

Candidates must have an MD, MD/PhD, or DO and be board certified/board eligible in Nephrology. Candidates must be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the California Medical Board. Candidates must have clinical credentialing and experience in plasmapheresis, hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis.

Preferred candidates will have a well developed track record of funded research in hypertension, particularly as it applies to elderly populations in addition to evidence of a substantial commitment to and experience in teaching medical students and residents. Experience in designing and leading clinical trials is also preferred.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
