Position description

THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS within the Division of Physical Sciences at the University of California, San Diego (http://physics.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for the Dean’s Excellence search, which includes a tenured (Associate level) faculty position in Experimental Biological Physics. Areas of interest include: cell, tissue, and organismal level processes with emphasis on physical methods and analysis applied to development, homeostasis, and biomechanics. All positions are subject to availability of funding.

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field and demonstrated potential for a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research. In addition, successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education. A successful candidate must have a well-articulated plan of contributing to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students and faculty in the sciences. We especially welcome candidates who have already participated in, contributed to, or created such programs, and can articulate how this experience helped shaped their plan. Candidates should present any previous experience having served as a role model in mentoring others. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to helping shape and expand the University's diversity initiatives (http://diversity.ucsd.edu/). Teaching in physics and related topics, will be expected. Ideally, the candidate will have skills and interest in teaching lab and lecture courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scale. Review of applications will commence on November 1, 2018, and continue until the position is filled.
