The Department of NanoEngineering (http://ne.ucsd.edu), which combines materials and chemical engineering applied to nanotechnologies in the Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD, invites applications for a Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment (“LPSOE” or “Assistant Teaching Professor”) position. The LPSOE series is a University of California-wide faculty series with equivalent rights and responsibilities as the more traditional tenure-track faculty series, but with a stronger emphasis on teaching and scholarly activity related to education, rather than on traditional disciplinary research activities.
Candidates must have advanced to candidacy or earned their Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering or a related area to support the Chemical Engineering Program within the department. Successful candidates will be expected to provide exceptional teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Chemical Engineering. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching of Chemical Engineering undergraduate laboratory courses and other core classes, improvement of curriculum, helping coordination of ABET accreditation activities, and development and assessment of new educational initiatives. The successful candidate will also be required to teach courses affiliated with the Gordon Engineering Leadership Center (http://jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/GordonCenter/).
In addition to teaching core courses, successful candidates are expected to participate in campus service as well as service beyond the campus. In particular, this position will be responsible for directing and managing the Gordon Engineering Leadership Program, which provides both education and training for a select cohort of engineering undergraduates and graduate students. The successful candidate will also further demonstrate educational leadership beyond the campus in contributions to instruction-related activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting TA training, supervision of student affairs, and development of instructional materials/multimedia for the Gordon Engineering Leadership Program and in collaboration with department and campus faculty.
