Description

The Rady School of Management (rady.ucsd.edu/) seeks an outstanding educator for the position of Executive Director of the Master of Professional Accountancy Program. The Executive Director is the working title, the position is classified as Academic Coordinator III and will be appointed on an academic year basis. Appointees in this series are not members of the Academic Senate and the appointment does not lead to tenure. The Rady School Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAc) program will be the Rady School’s newest self-supporting program. Approved by University of California Office of the President in December 2017, the anticipated inaugural class of 72 students will be admitted beginning fall of 2019 and the program will continue at this size for the first five years of the plan. The program is designed to satisfy the growing demand for graduates who are able to meet the strong need for accounting professionals across a broad spectrum of organizations.

Primary responsibilities:
The Executive Director will provide the management oversight and interface between the students/graduates and industry. The position provides formal supervision of all administrative, operational, and/or curricular matters relating to the program, develops strategy for preparing students for the job market, and provides guidance to several career staff employees. This position will be expected to develop and teach graduate courses in the MPAc program.

Interface with Industry:
The core of the Rady MPAc program emphasizes knowledge in the use of financial data in the core business functions (i.e., marketing, finance, leadership, management, and operations). The person selected for the position will require considerable strength in these areas to position students for the job market. Careers in accounting span public accounting firms, corporate accounting departments, and not-for-profit and governmental organizations. Additionally, the Executive Director must come to Rady with a global network of academic, government, and business contacts.

Curriculum Development and Management:
The individual selected for the position will independently lead the curricular development for all MPAc cohorts. This person will help to prepare students entering the job market to ensure they have the essential quantitative and business skills necessary to develop tools for financial data-driven business decision making. The job market for new graduates is fast-changing and competitive. The successful placement of Rady School graduates necessitates the leadership of a director who has an intimate knowledge of accounting and related fields. This person must be adequately experienced to identify and generate topics for the curriculum, as well as employment opportunities for which our career services center does not have the specialized expertise. The knowledge and experience necessary to successfully achieve these goals comes from a professional background with a blend of both academic and business experience.

Placement of Graduates and Teaching:
The Executive Director will place students with high value, national and international firms in various industries; create industry alliances that lead to internship opportunities; independently lead the capstone projects; and manage related operational funds. This individual will be expected to develop and/or teach 2 to 3 courses per year in the MPAc program, and the individual will collaborate with Rady faculty on curriculum development and all other crucial aspects of the position requirements to ensure programmatic success.

REQUIRED:
• PhD in Accounting, Finance, or Economics preferred.
• Experience with teaching and development of graduate level (business) accounting courses.
• Commitment to supporting teaching excellence at the graduate level.

PREFERRED:
• Considerable strength in marketing, finance, leadership, management, and operations to position students for the job market.
• Extensive knowledge of the analytical tools used in industry and come to Rady with a global network of academic, national and international business contacts.
• High level administrative management experience, including planning, leadership, and analysis.
• Ability or potential to provide educational leadership by developing a curriculum that emphasizes core concepts, problem solving, and the development of critical thinking skills.
• Ability to successfully address the educational and academic needs of a diverse student population, including developing and updating curriculum and instructional strategies for the educational advancement of students from groups who are underrepresented in higher education.
• Substantial breadth of accounting, finance, and economics knowledge as evidenced by a PhD.
• Excellent communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize effective collaboration with a diverse community of campus and external colleagues.

Salary and appointment level are dependent on experience and based on University of California pay scales.
