Position description

The Department of Literature within the Division of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego (http://literature.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. All Literature courses will be considered and based on department needs. Ph.D. or MFA or Master’s Degree in related field and outstanding teaching experience are required. Salary and level of appointment are based on qualifications and UC pay scale. Proof of authorization to work in the U. S. will be required prior to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1985).

We are seeking applicants for temporary Lecturer position(s) in Creative Writing, with emphases in the following:

  1. Ability to teach courses and workshops in the following topics: stylistics and grammar, writing and literary theory, speculative fiction, intercultural writing, media writing, and writing pedagogy
  2. Fiction, including experimental writing, short story, digital and graphic texts.
  3. Poetry, including experimental writing, poetics, digital poetry, traditional and non-traditional form.

Appointment(s) may be part-time, full-time, quarterly or annual, with the possibility of renewal. Positions available beginning the 2018/2019 academic year.

The ideal candidate must be capable of teaching a breadth of courses in the first detailed area above, as well as courses in one of the two subsequent areas. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching and creative activity, as well as professional recognition. Preferred qualifications include an MFA or PhD in Creative Writing, strong or potential accomplishment in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.
