Position description

Faculty Appointment in Emergency Medicine.
The Department of Emergency Medicine (http://emergencymed.ucsd.edu/Pages/default.aspx) at University of California, San Diego (UCSD) invites applications from outstanding candidates for an EMS physician and faculty member with the UCSD School of Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine. The Department currently operates three Emergency Departments with a combined census of over 100,000 patients annually (level 1 trauma center and academic medical center), with a four-year EM residency program (11 residents/year), teaching programs for 1st through 4th year medical students, and robust fellowship programs in EMS, Toxicology, Hyperbarics, Pediatric EM, Ultrasound, Wilderness Medicine, and Research.
 
The UCSD Department of Emergency Medicine provides excellent opportunities for clinical service, teaching, and research at one of the nation's top-ranked Medical Schools and one of the most academically productive Emergency Departments in the country.   The Department has had a long track-record of success in research with extramural funding from the NIH, NSF, HRSA, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, California Healthcare Foundation, Department of Justice, Beacon Community, and recent $12m award from the Gary and Mary West Health Foundation. The Department also holds EMS Medical Directorships for the Cities of San Diego, Carlsbad, and Chula Vista. The successful candidate will be able to build on this success to establish a trajectory focused developing the EMS division within the department.

Candidates must have an MD, California medicine license/eligibility and be board certification/eligibility in Emergency Medicine with a sub-specialty certification in EMS.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
