Curriculum Coordinator & Lecturer, Analytical Writing Program

This position will begin Fall 2018.

The Division of Arts & Humanities, at UC San Diego, is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

UC San Diego is inviting applications for a full-time position as Curriculum Coordinator and Lecturer of the Analytical Writing Program. The Curriculum Coordinator reports to the Director of Analytical Writing and will work closely with the Analytical Writing faculty and administrative team. The appointment may be annual or biennial, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.

Under the general guidance of the Director and Associate Director of Analytical Writing, the incumbent is expected to: help build and maintain a program dedicated to best practices in the teaching of Analytical Writing; support our diverse population of students; support the Analytical Writing faculty by developing resources and maintaining the program’s learning management system and other technologies; assist the Director and Associate Director in composing surveys and collecting data for program assessment; and promote a program culture that encourages inclusiveness and rigor in the teaching and learning of writing. The Curriculum Coordinator is also expected to be an effective teacher who can enact the program’s principles and practices in his or her basic writing classroom.

Job functions:

• Assist the Director and Associate Director in articulating the curriculum and designing new courses
• Edit teaching materials composed by the Director and Associate Director
• Build and manage the TritonEd sites; train faculty in the use of the TritonEd learning management system; troubleshoot for faculty
• Update and manage the program website
• Help coordinate/schedule professional development activities
• Find and maintain teaching resources for faculty
• Read and score the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE)
• Participate in professional development meetings
• Assist in the assessment of student portfolios
• Assist in the assessment of the curriculum
• Teach in the Analytical Writing Program

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or M.A. in Composition or related field
• University teaching experience in Composition; experience teaching basic and ELL writers
• Current knowledge of effective, evidence-based practices and emerging trends in teaching and learning in Composition
• Evidence of the ability to support faculty and graduate teaching assistance regarding matters of teaching
• Strong communication skills and service-oriented approach to individuals at all levels and across disciplines
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, academic units, faculty, graduate students, and staff
• Experience using or supporting the use of academic technologies, such as learning management systems, digital and/or social media
• Experience in program or institutional evaluation
• A commitment to diversity and to ensuring the success of groups historically underrepresented in higher education

Salary commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. This employment opportunity is for a one or two year appointment at UC San Diego.
