The Rady School of Management (rady.ucsd.edu/) seeks an outstanding educator for the position of Executive Director of the Master of Science in Business Analytics Program. The Executive Director is the working title, the position is classified as Academic Coordinator III and will be appointed on an academic year basis. Appointees in this series are not members of the Academic Senate and the appointment does not lead to tenure. The Rady School Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program is the newest self-supporting program at the Rady School of Management. In summer 2016, the first class of 42 students matriculated. In fall 2017, 55 new students joined the program with approximately 65 students expected in fall 2018. The program is designed to satisfy the growing demand for graduates with the quantitative and business skills required to develop tools for data-driven business decision making.
The Executive Director will provide the management oversight and interface between the students/graduates and industry. The position provides formal supervision of the Capstone program, develops strategy for preparing students for the job market, and provides guidance to several career staff employees. This position will be expected to teach graduate courses in the MSBA program and lead the Capstone course for all MSBA cohorts.
Interface with Industry:
The core of the Rady MSBA program emphasizes knowledge in statistics, marketing analytics, operations, data science, and computer science. The person selected for the position will require considerable strength in these areas to position students for the job market. Careers include, but are not limited to, business analyst, data scientist, e-commerce analyst, and product analyst across a wide range of industries. Additionally, the Executive Director must come to Rady with a global network of academic, government, and business contacts.
Capstone Course Identification and Management:
The individual selected for the position will independently lead the Capstone course for all MSBA cohorts. This person will help to prepare students entering the job market to ensure they have the essential quantitative and business skills necessary to develop tools for data-driven business decision making. The job market for new graduates is fast-changing and competitive. The successful placement of Rady School graduates necessitates the leadership of a coordinator who has an intimate knowledge of business analytics computer science. This person must be adequately experienced to identify and generate topics for the Capstone course, as well as employment opportunities for which our career services center does not have the specialized expertise. The knowledge and experience necessary to successfully achieve these goals comes from a professional background with a blend of both academic and business experience.
Placement of Graduates and Teaching Specialized Industry Facing Courses:
The Executive Director will place students with high value, national and international firms in various industries; create industry alliances that lead to internship opportunities; independently lead the capstone projects; and manage related operational funds. This individual will be expected to develop and/or teach 2 to 3 courses per year in the MSBA program, and the individual will collaborate with Rady faculty on curriculum development and all other crucial aspects of the position requirements to ensure programmatic success.
• PhD in Quantitative Marketing, Operations Research, Data Science, or Computer Science.
• Experience with teaching and development of graduate level (business) analytics courses.
• Commitment to supporting teaching excellence at the graduate level.
• Considerable strength in business analytics, data science, marketing, and operations to position students for the job market.
• Extensive knowledge of the analytical tools used in industry and come to Rady with a global network of academic, national and international business contacts.
• High level administrative management experience, including planning, leadership, and analysis.
• Ability or potential to provide educational leadership by supporting the transformation of student defined capstone projects to emphasize core concepts, problem solving, and the development of critical thinking skills.
• Ability to successfully address the educational and academic needs of a diverse student population, including developing and updating curriculum and instructional strategies for the educational advancement of students from groups who are underrepresented in higher education.
• Substantial breadth of marketing analytics, computer science, and operations knowledge as evidenced by a PhD.
• Excellent communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize effective collaboration with a diverse community of campus and external colleagues.
Salary and appointment level are dependent on experience and based on University of California pay scales.
