Position description

THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY within the Division of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego http://chemistry.ucsd.edu/ invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position (also termed Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment, LPSOE) beginning July 1, 2017. This faculty series, which is unique to the University of California system, carries full membership in the Academic Senate with comparable rights and responsibilities as the standard professorial track, but with a greater emphasis on teaching and educational scholarship. All positions are subject to budget approval.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or chemical education. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience and potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level; interest and/or experience with emerging pedagogical trends and curricular development, particularly in the area of analytical chemistry (both the lecture and laboratory learning environments); and an interest in or prior accomplishment with educational grant writing, educational project or program development and assessment, and/or chemical education research.

Successful faculty candidates will be expected to teach analytical and general chemistry laboratory courses; assume a leadership role in the educational mission of the Department; engage in scholarly work in the field of chemical education; and contribute to University and public service.
