Position description

The Department of Literature at the University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for a lecturer position in Greek, Latin and classical civilizations, starting July 1, 2017. The appointment is contingent on performance and funding availability. Salary is based on the University of California salary scales. Proof of authorization to work in the U. S. will be required prior to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1985).

The Department of Literature is an interdisciplinary unit that congregates scholars of different disciplines, literary critics, and writers dedicated to the study of world literatures and cultures. From its beginning, the Literature Department at UCSD has promoted the study of world literatures within a commitment to the multilingual historical analysis of the connections between cultures.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. classics or related fields by time of appointment.

• Extensive experience as a language instructor, including TA, and the ability of teaching Greek and Latin at all levels.

• Capability to design and develop language and content-based courses with existing faculty members.

Preferred experience in the research of teaching and learning of ancient languages.
