The Department of Cognitive Science at the University of California, San Diego is committed to building an excellent and diverse faculty, staff, and student body, and invites applications from candidates whose experience has prepared them to contribute to our commitment. The department is accepting applications for temporary non-tenure track lecturers (Unit 18) to teach for the 2016-2017 academic year. Courses can include upper- and lower-division in the areas of Computation, HCI, Design, Language/Culture, Cognitive/Behavioral Neuroscience, and Clinical Aspects. In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include (but are not limited to) managing Teaching Assistants, holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website. Those teaching large courses are expected to work with, meet with, and mentor graduate student Teaching Assistants. The number of positions varies from academic term to academic term, depending on the needs of the Cognitive Science Department.
Positions typically start at the beginning of an academic quarter, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, performance and the Department's mandate to maintain intellectual diversity.

Candidates must have (a) at minimum a Master's degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree or completion of degree by start date of position in their area of expertise or related field and (b) successful teaching of undergraduate courses or have expertise that matches the department’s programmatic needs. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity is preferred. Appointments will be part-time or full-time, up to a total of two courses per quarter, from one quarter up to one year in duration.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
