Position description

THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY within the Division of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego seeks an outstanding candidate for our General and Organic Chemistry Lab Coordinator position. The General Chemistry Lab course (Chemistry 7L) has enrollments up to 720 students per quarter and the Chemistry 143 course has student enrollments up to 480 students per quarter. The Chemistry 7L course condenses a year of introductory training in analytical, inorganic, physical and synthetic techniques into one intensive quarter and Chemistry 143 provides an introduction to organic laboratory techniques including separation and purification, spectroscopy, product analysis, and effects of reaction conditions. The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for helping to develop strategies for effective management of all aspects of these courses, including TA training, staff coordination, and curriculum. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field is required, and the following training and skills are highly desirable: undergraduate teaching experience, especially in lab courses; curriculum development; ability to collaborate with diverse groups of colleagues and/or community partners in course development, implementation and evaluation; ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) to broad audiences; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

This is a full-time 100% position and the salary for this 9 month appointment is paid over 12 months. The salary and level of appointment are based on qualifications and UC pay scale.
