Position description

The University of California, San Diego has a long-standing commitment to interdisciplinary research. Building on this foundation, we are launching a campus-wide initiative to hire four or more tenure-track or tenured faculty conducting innovative interdisciplinary research with the broad goal of understanding human knowledge, learning and creativity. We seek candidates with research interests in the following focal area of:

Social basis of human knowledge, learning and creativity. Candidates investigating social institutions and practices (e.g., how different types of institutions circulate forms of knowledge within society) are encouraged to apply.

Appointments will be made jointly between at least two departments and across at least two divisions to spur interdisciplinary work. The divisions/units include but are not limited to: the Division of Social Sciences, the Division of Arts and Humanities, the Division of Biological Sciences, the Division of Physical Sciences, the Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Medicine, the School of Global Policy and Strategy, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science, and the Rady School of Management. Associate-level or Early Full Professor candidates must hold a Ph.D. and show evidence of an outstanding independent research program along with strong teaching ability and service commitment. The preferred candidate should have evidence of meaningful and strong contributions to diversity. The initial deadline for applications is September 30, 2016, and the review of applications will continue until the position is filled. The level of appointment and salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on UC pay schedules.
