DEPARTMENT OF COGNITIVE SCIENCE AT UC SAN DIEGO
The Department of Cognitive Science http://cogsci.ucsd.edu within the Division of Social Sciences at the University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We invite applications for a faculty position in the field of Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related fields. We interpret these areas broadly and invite strong candidates in related specializations. Potential fields include social computing, design, interactive systems, and gestural and natural interfaces. We are especially interested in candidates who will flourish in a Cognitive Science Department, and whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity within an academic setting. The department seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank to begin July 1, 2016. Joint appointment with other departments can be considered where appropriate.

The UCSD Department of Cognitive Science was the first of its kind in the world, and, as part of an exceptional scientific community, continues to influence the field it helped to create. The department is truly interdisciplinary, with a faculty whose interests span anthropology, computer science, design, human development, human-computer interaction, information science, linguistics, neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and vision. We welcome candidates to apply whose PhD or equivalent doctorate degree are in these disciplines.

The preferred candidate will have strong demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree or completion of doctorate degree in their area of expertise by the start date of the position. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and supervise students, primarily at the undergraduate and graduate level, in HCI/design courses and/or related topics in a cognitive science department, and conduct extramurally funded research. An interdisciplinary perspective and experience with multiple methodologies is highly valued.

Appointments will begin July 1, 2016 and salary is commensurate with experience and based on the University of California pay scales.
