Position description

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Burns, and Acute Care Surgery (http://trauma.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body. The division is seeking an academic general surgeon with special interests and expertise in Trauma/Burn, Surgical Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery. This is a full-time tenured faculty position (academic rank to be determined based upon experience). Series will include 50% Ladder Rank and 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding. The University is interested in candidates who have demonstrated commitment to excellence by providing leadership in teaching, research or service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

Applicants must possess documented teaching and research experience in an area relevant to Trauma/Burn, Critical Care/Acute Care Surgery. Previous experience and strong background in basic sciences and translational research in the field of systemic inflammatory response to injury is highly desired. Candidates must also be able to secure extramural funding to support research. This is an academic appointment which requires excellence in clinical activities, research and teaching. Qualified candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Must have or be able to obtain a California medical license.
  2. Board certification in General Surgery.
  3. Hold or be eligible for a certificate of added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
  4. Commitment to research and education.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Review of applications will begin January 3, 2016, and continue until the position is filled.
