Position description

The Department of History (http://history.ucsd.edu/) within the Division of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body, and invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in the history of the Islamic Middle East before ca. 1800. We are especially interested in candidates who can place the region within broader regional and global contexts and have a record of research in Arabic and/or Ottoman sources. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2016.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
The preferred candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership or a commitment to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
