Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at UC San Diego (http://scripps.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body. SIO is a world renowned center of marine research with approximately 200 principal investigators leading research programs on all aspects of earth, ocean and atmospheric sciences.

We seek to fill a 50-100% variable position of Associate Director of the Masters of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Climate Sciences and Policy (CSP) with a professional in the field of Climate Sciences. The candidate ideally has credentials in climate sciences and experience in some aspect of U.S. science policy, or in a related communication, business or non-governmental organization. The Associate Director of MAS-CSP at Scripps Institution of Oceanography assumes lead responsibility for on-going development, management and supervision of all MAS-CSP educational activities conducted by Scripps and related faculty. These include assistance with course development, academic mentorship, admissions, and oversight of students’ capstone research as well as other interactions with students, lecturers, campus administrators and relations with public and private sectors as related to the MAS-CSP. The Associate Director is expected to work with the MAS-CSP Director and faculty steering committees, to manage the intellectual content, ongoing development and management of the MAS-CSP, as well as courses offered by SIO faculty and researchers.

The successful candidate should have a college degree (MS, PhD or equivalent) in a program relevant to climate sciences (i.e. climate sciences, earth sciences, chemistry, atmospheric sciences, oceanography) as well as policy-relevant experience. Significant experience in organizations involved with implementing and communicating climate policy is desired. The successful candidate will have experience and a willingness to participate in teaching, mentoring, research or service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Substantial initiative, leadership, creativity within the parameters of existing University guidelines (which could include research and grant-writing related to developing the program), and an established professional network within related fields are expected.

The payroll title will be proposed at the Academic Coordinator I, II, or III level, commensurate with education and experience, which is subject to review and reappointment every two (or more) years.
Salary will depend on the experience of the successful applicant and will be based on the UCSD pay scales.
