Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health & Vice Chair for Veterans Affairs

The VA San Diego Healthcare System and UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry seek a distinguished clinician scientist with demonstrated leadership experience within the VA to become their next Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health and Vice Chair for Veterans Affairs. Required qualifications are for a clinician scholar and educator with administrative experience relevant to managing an integrated mental healthcare delivery system with a tripartite mission of excellence in clinical care of Veterans, research and education. S/he will oversee a multidisciplinary Mental Health Hybrid Care Line within VA San Diego including roughly 400 staff who serve over 20,000 Veterans annually across a variety of inpatient, residential and outpatient settings. Candidates should be American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Board Certified or hold a doctoral degree from an accredited program in clinical psychology, social work or nursing. Successful candidate must be able to qualify as Associate or Full Professor at the UCSD School of Medicine and must be licensed to practice in the United States. VA San Diego and the UCSD Department of Psychiatry share a mission to develop new knowledge to further understanding of the mechanisms and treatment of mental illness, and to train the next generation of mental health providers and investigators, thus, the candidate should have a track record in peer review research and documentation of teaching effectiveness. Reporting to the VA Chief of Staff and the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, the successful candidate will be responsible for integrating VA’s clinical, research and educational programs in mental health in concert with the department’s academic mission.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on VASDHS and University of California pay scales.
