Position description

The Department of Psychiatry within the School of Medicine at UC San Diego (http://psychiatry.ucsd.edu/Pages/default.aspx) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body.

The UCSD Department of Psychiatry seeks to recruit basic scientists, clinical scientists, and translational scientists whose work illuminates the nature, mechanisms, and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. The Department wishes to attract basic scientists who are exploring the fundamental processes underlying common components of cognitive, mood, temperamental, and motivational disturbances in neuropsychiatric conditions. For example, investigators may be exploring the molecular, cellular, and neural network connectivity bases of learning and memory, attentional and executive processes, and their genetic regulation. Additional examples of areas of basic science and translational interest would include, but are not limited to exploration of signaling pathways in the central nervous system that have received less attention but may be important in understanding the bases and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders, such as the endocannabinoid system. Translational research could embrace areas such as basic studies on circadian rhythms, as well as studies on sleep disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, addictive disorders, neurocognitive disorders, and their treatment, including their genetic regulation.

This is a multi-hire recruitment for various faculty series (ie. tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenured). Candidates can be at varying levels of seniority, so both entry-level and senior candidates will be considered. However the track record of research and teaching will be evaluated in accordance with a candidate’s experience.

MDs, PhDs, and MD PhDs are welcome to apply. MDs and PhDs with clinical training need to be eligible or hold appropriate clinical licenses in the State of California, and will be expected to be willing to do sufficient clinical work to demonstrate relevance of their research to real problems of patients and their families.

The UCSD Department of Psychiatry seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce as a reflection of our strong commitment to the twin goals of achievement of excellence and diversity among our faculty and staff. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to maintain the highest standards of scholarship and professional activities and to develop a climate that supports equality and diversity.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.

Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2015, and will continue until the positions are filled.

To be considered for a mid-level or senior non-tenured faculty position (Associate or Full rank), candidates will be expected to have a robust track record of independent peer-review research. To be considered for a mid-level or senior tenured faculty position (Associate or Full rank), candidates will be expected to have a robust track record of independent peer-review research, with a record of continuous and current funding at a significant level.
