Given that commitment, the department is seeking to hire one full-time MRI physicist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Project Scientist level to join a multi–disciplinary team of investigators that are focused on the MRI interrogation of musculoskeletal tissues using standard clinical, as well as novel pulse sequences, for tissue characterization. The physicist will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring and quality control of all pulse sequences, imaged reconstruction and post-image data processing (such as quantification of MR relaxation times including T1, T2, T2* and T1rho, magnetization transfer ratio, susceptibility, perfusion, etc). The candidate will be responsible for translation of research sequences to the clinical settings. The Project Scientist position has an initial two-year appointment and is renewable. Minimum qualifications include Ph.D. or a Ph.D.-equivalent degree is required. Essential qualifications include experience with pulse sequence development and image processing algorithms, and strong computational/analytic skills. Candidates should have background in medical physics, radiology, bioengineering, or a related field. The Candidate should also possess outstanding writing and communication skills as demonstrated by a successful publication record. Experience with clinical MRI scanners would be extremely beneficial. Candidates must have a willingness to participate in several ongoing research projects involving the development of both animals and humans and collaborate with a broad range of biologically-oriented investigators.

UCSD has a comprehensive array of facilities for tissue specimen imaging and human studies. The current MR facilities include 1.5T and 3T GE scanners, a 0.35T Time-Medical open magnet, as well as a Bruker 11.7T scanner.
