Position description

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego (RCHSD) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and seeks applicants for clinician educator or clinician researcher in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. The position is offered at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with UCSD rank, salary and series of appointment based on the candidate’s skills and qualifications. The 11 member Hospital Medicine Division provides inpatient medical care at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego (RCHSD), the largest children’s hospital system on the west coast (442 licensed beds) with over 200 medical and surgical subspecialists and strong relationships with community pediatricians. RCHSD is the only children’s hospital and Level I trauma center in San Diego and Imperial Counties, in a metropolitan area of 4 million people. The Division oversees hospital medicine at RCHSD and at licensed RCHSD beds in 2 other community hospitals, as well as administrative roles for several hospital programs, including the Director of Inpatient Services, Director of GME, and Co-Director of the RCHSD’s active patient transport system, among others. The Division plays a major role in medical education for medical students and pediatric residents. The division is home to one of the first Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowships in the country. The Division is active at the state and national levels in areas of patient safety, medical education, and clinical quality improvement.

Candidates must have completed Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship, or have at least 5 years of active experience in pediatric hospital medicine that includes consistent medical student and resident teaching. The candidate must have California medical license/eligibility, board certification in Pediatrics and a history of active work in pediatric hospital medicine. Ideal candidates will have evidence of regional or national involvement in PHM education and/or research activities (societies, conference presentations, abstract reviews, other) .

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Successful candidates will also demonstrate strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
