Recruitment Period

Open Aug 29, 2013 through Nov 15, 2013

Description

The Department of Literature within the Division of Arts & Humanities at the University of California, San Diego (http://literature.ucsd.edu) seeks candidates for the Hajime Mori Chair in Japanese Language and Literature, whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. We prefer candidates at the Full Professor level but will consider advanced Associate Professors.

We seek candidates who have demonstrated the highest standards of scholarly contribution and professional activity; who will actively participate in our department's multilingual, transnational projects; whose methodological interests could include cultural studies and cross-media examinations. Ability to teach courses on literature, film, theater, visual arts, new media, and cultural theory is desirable. Special interests, such as digital humanities, transpacific Asian and Asian American studies, are welcome. Demonstrated commitment to excellence by providing leadership in teaching, research, and service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment is essential. Candidates interested in developing collaborative pedagogical and research projects with colleagues in other departments and divisions (e.g., social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering) are particularly welcome as the campus implements new initiatives in long-term strategic planning over the next several years.

Faculty members teach and supervise students at the undergraduate and graduate level. The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
