Salary range: The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and/or step. The base pay range for this position is $82,200-$235,400. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan. Position description

The Department of Surgery (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/surgery/pages/default.aspx), Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/surgery/divisions/cardiothoracic/Pages/default.aspx) in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego is committed to excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body, and is recruiting faculty with a strong interest in education and academic medicine to join our multidisciplinary and fast-growing program.

The Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UC San Diego provides patient care at the Cardiovascular Institute located on its main campus in La Jolla, CA. The program has had exponential growth over the last decade, and is recognized as a national and international leader in the field of cardiovascular disease. The Division also provides clinical practices in multiple locations across the region. Our team is comprised of outstanding faculty and staff dedicated to patient care, education, research, and quality initiatives.

Candidates will be responsible for providing high quality training and teaching and will participate in the clinical care of patients and in ongoing clinical research that will provide assistance with improving our patient engagement and outcomes. Candidates will also participate in cutting edge research to advance the overall field of transplantation and cardiothoracic surgery. Candidates will also provide assistance with our growing transplant programs in that of procurements and innovative research projects to include comparative effectiveness, cost effectiveness, clinical utility and real-world industry application.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (Required at Time of Application)

Candidates must have a MD, DO or equivalent.

Candidates must be Board certified or Board eligible in Thoracic Surgery.

Candidates must also have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
