The Department of Emergency Medicine (http://emergencymed.ucsd.edu) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications from outstanding candidates for a Ladder Rank appointment for a research faculty position with the UCSD School of Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
The Department currently operates two Emergency Departments with a combined census of 70,000 patients annually (level 1 trauma center and academic medical center), with a four-year EM residency program (11 residents/year), teaching programs for 1st through 4th year medical students, and robust fellowship programs in Toxicology, Hyperbarics, EMS, Clinical Informatics, Ultrasound, Pediatric EM and Clinical Research. The Department provides excellent opportunities for clinical service, teaching, and research at one of the nation's top-ranked Medical Schools. In addition, the Department has strong inter-departmental collaborations across campus with the Division of Geriatrics, Jacobs School of Engineering, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, and School of Public Health.
The UCSD Department of Emergency Medicine is one of the most academically productive Departments in the specialty in the country with extramural funding from the NIH, NSF, HRSA, RWJF, State of California, DOJ, ACEP-EMF, and Gary and Mary West Health organization focused on research, clinical innovation, and health policy initiatives.
The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching and conducting research in emergency medicine and will also be able to build on their academic research career at UCSD with the potential for additional collaborations with other Departments in the School of Medicine, as well as across campus with the UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering, and Wertheim School of Public Health.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.

Salary is commensurate with the candidate's experience and background and based on University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table(s) for the salary range. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Candidates must have a MD, DO, or equivalent, PhD or other advanced degrees in health related fields.
Candidates with a MD and DO must be Board eligible/certified in Emergency Medicine.
Candidates with a MD and DO must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the California Medical Board.
