Position description
The Department of Mathematics within the School of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego (http://math.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position (also termed Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment or LPSOE) beginning July 1, 2023. This faculty series, which is unique to the University of California system, carries full membership in the Academic Senate with comparable rights and responsibilities to the standard professorial track, but with a greater emphasis on teaching and educational scholarship. All positions are subject to availability of funding.
Successful candidates will be expected to assume a leadership role in the Department’s undergraduate teaching mission in a number of respects, including teaching and coordinating the teaching of key undergraduate courses in mathematics or statistics, as well as contributing to University and public service.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on UC pay scales. The starting date for the position, pending funding approval, will be July 1, 2023.

Qualifications
Currently pursuing PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, or closely related field
Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or closely related field prior to first quarter of teaching
Experience teaching introductory mathematics and statistics lower division courses with rigorous assessment of student learning and critical thinking.
Plan for excellence in teaching.
Plan for rigorous assessment of student learning and critical thinking.
Plan for contributing to programs that increase the retention and persistence of students from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
