Position description

THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY & BIOCHEMISTRY within the School of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego seeks to establish a pool of outstanding instructors for undergraduate courses in all areas of chemistry with particular interest in biochemistry laboratory instruction.

Pending budgetary approval, one or more non tenure -track lectureships may become available. All areas of chemistry and biochemistry will be considered. Appointments may be 1 or more quarters based on departmental needs. The 9-month salary and level of appointment are based on qualifications and UC pay scale.

Subsequent applications will be reviewed periodically as teaching needs arise.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must have or be a candidate for a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field, and have outstanding teaching experience.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Ph.D. candidates may apply; however, the Ph.D. must be awarded prior to the start of the teaching quarter in order for an offer of employment to be made.

Preferred qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience and demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level in the area of biochemistry. Additionally, applicants must have prior research experience , two supportive letters of references, strong record of mentorship, teaching experience in both lecture and laboratory-based settings, and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion are highly desirable .

  • Statement of Teaching - 1-page teaching statement.

  • Sample Syllabi - At least one and up to three. Additional syllabi or other documents can be added through miscellaneous/additional documents (optional).
