The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), at the University of California, San Diego, invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor position in Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, High Energy Density Physics (HEDP), and/or Warm-Dense Matter (WDM) from candidate’s committed to, and experienced in, building an excellent and diverse academic environment. We seek candidates working in plasma science with applications in controlled nuclear fusion, HEDP, and/or WDM. Candidates who aim to both grow new research efforts and engage and collaborate with existing well-established experimental research groups working in fusion plasma-material interactions, edge plasma physics, power and particle handling in reactor-like conditions, HEDP, and/or WDM studies are of particular interest.
Candidates should have a demonstrated record for teaching excellence and the highest standards of scholarship, and professional activity in their research. Finally, candidates will have demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and express a well-thought plan and desire to participate in the School's diversity initiatives.
The required job duties include developing an excellent research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and service activities.
We especially welcome candidates who have contributed to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students or faculty in engineering and who are committed to, and experienced in, building an excellent and diverse academic environment.
Salary: Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications; salary based on UC pay scales and market conditions.

A Ph.D. degree is required in Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
