Position description

The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at UC San Diego (hwsph.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and has occasional openings for temporary non-tenure track lecturers (Unit 18) for Academic years Winter 22/23 and 23/24.

Appointees must comply with School and University instructions, deadlines, and policies regarding course scheduling, and are expected to be flexible with regards to the scheduling of their classes to accommodate the limited space availability for classrooms during standard business hours. Classes may be in person, online, or mixed. Appointments may be part or full time, for 1, 2, or 3 classes per quarter and 1, 2, or 3 quarters in duration in an academic year. In the application, please specify the courses or academic area(s) in which you are qualified to teach. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and who will make a strong and meaningful contribution to the development of a campus climate that supports that commitment.

Salary is based on the University of California pay scales.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Two to three years experience in public health or related field. Candidates must demonstrate a strong knowledge relevant to the course.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Candidates must have a PhD, DrPh, other related doctoral degree, or other related terminal degree (eg. MPH, RD) by the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications

Candidates with prior research or practice experience relevant to the course(s) to which they are applying to teach and/or prior college level teaching experience are preferred, experience can be as a teaching assistant.
