Position description

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Department of Pediatrics (http://pediatrics.ucsd.edu), and Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego (http://www.rchsd.org) are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are seeking academic physicians at the assistant, associate, or full professor rank to join the Division of Emergency Medicine at both our main campus and satellite emergency departments and urgent cares.

Rady Children’s Hospital is a 524-bed level 1 Trauma Center and serves as the region’s primary and tertiary pediatric hospital, and as the clinical home of the UCSD Department of Pediatrics. The Division has a strong commitment to clinical care, quality improvement, community service and outreach, teaching, and research.

The PEM Division houses an ACGME-accredited fellowship, has 8 PEM fellows and 1 PEM ultrasound fellow in training each year, and is the pediatric emergency medicine training site for over 200 residents and over 50 medical students. The main campus ED has a census of close to 100,000 visits per year and over 12,000 per year at our satellite location (prior to COVID-19). The division also has 6 community pediatric urgent care centers with a combined census of about 60,000 visits per year (prior to COVID-19).

The successful candidates will join our staff of 42 PEM BC/BE attending physicians, 15 Urgent Care pediatricians, and 3 allied health professionals to provide coverage at both our main and satellite ED providing the vast majority of the pediatric emergency care for San Diego county. The successful candidates will also be responsible for providing high quality training and teaching to medical students, residents and fellows and participate in clinical care of patients.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate of Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
