Position description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery within the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (http://ortho.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and is seeking a highly qualified and energetic board certified/eligible physiatrist to complement our non-surgical Orthopaedic practice.

The nonsurgical musculoskeletal service line of UC San Diego Orthopaedics is expanding, and the candidate would join other Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and non-surgical physicians in the Orthopaedic Surgery Department. The candidates will be working together with multidisciplinary teams and Orthopaedic surgeons to maximize the nonsurgical care of patients at UC San Diego.

Responsibilities include outpatient and procedural care, with potential opportunities to provide inpatient care, as available. Position will assist with teaching, and will have opportunities for basic science and clinical research at UC San Diego facilities.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (Required at Time of Application)

Candidates must have an MD or DO or equivalent, completed a US accredited residency training program in physical medicine and rehabilitation, have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the California Medical Board, and be American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation certified or eligible.

Preferred qualifications

Preferred candidate will have experience and interest in managing general musculoskeletal conditions and procedural skills in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, such as electromyography, joint and soft-tissue injections, chemodenervation, spine injections, and/or other pain management. Prior experience in an academic teaching institution.
