Research in the laboratory is at the intersection of lipid metabolism and inflammation, in the broad context of human disease ranging from atherosclerosis to neuropathic pain. We employ molecular, cellular and mouse models to study oxidized lipoproteins, cholesterol dynamics and role of lipid rafts in regulation of inflammation. A specific focus of the postdoctoral project will be on function of apoA-I binding protein (AIBP), which selectively targets cholesterol efflux in inflammarafts – clustered lipid rafts in inflamed and cholesterol-overloaded cells serving as a signaling platform for assembly of inflammatory receptor complexes. The position will be supported by grants from the NIH and provide rigorous exposure in interdisciplinary research. UCSD is a place of flourishing interdisciplinary collaborations and ranked one of the best universities in the world. Situated in a rich innovation hub of La Jolla, California, UCSD produces science among the highest cited worldwide.
Demonstrated expertise in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular research, including animal models, molecular and cellular assays, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq data analysis and high-resolution microscopy. Excellent communication skills and high level of independence, ability to craft projects and collaborate with colleagues are expected.
