Position description

The Department of Pathology (http://pathology.ucsd.edu) and the Center for Perinatal Discovery (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/pathology/research/cpd/pages/default.aspx) at the University of California San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body are seeking physician-scientists in a discipline relevant to women’s reproductive health and perinatal biology.

The Center for Perinatal Discovery, which the candidate will join, was launched in September 2020, and is a focal point for clinical, translational, and basic research related to maternal and child health. Its overarching mission is to understand both the effects of maternal health on pregnancy, and the effects of pregnancy exposures and outcomes on maternal and offspring health throughout the lifespan.

The Department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated commitment to clinical and research excellence and participation in teaching, research, service, and in building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. The Department is comprised of 65 faculty members and is currently ranked 14th among Pathology departments in NIH funding, with active research programs in placental biology, microbiome, cancer immunology, and neurodevelopmental biology. The successful candidate will benefit from the highly stimulating and collaborative environment within both the department and the Center.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have an MD, MD/PhD in health related fields or equivalent degree. Candidates must also have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California and be board eligible or board certified in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology, or related field.

Preferred qualifications

The preferred candidate will also have a current research program in a discipline relevant to women’s reproductive and/or perinatal biology with a track record of obtaining funding.

Candidates with additional clinical fellowship training in gynecologic, perinatal, and/or pediatric pathology are preferred. Candidates with a high productivity with regards to peer-reviewed publications and a strong research background in reproductive immunology or endometrial biology are preferred.
