Position description

The University of California, San Diego, Department of Surgery, Division of Breast Surgery (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/surgery/divisions/Pages/Breast-Surgery.aspx), Moore's UCSD Cancer Center and Comprehensive Breast Health Center (https://health.ucsd.edu/specialties/cancer/) are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and seek to recruit a fellowship trained breast surgeon with a focus on clinical care and a commitment to breast cancer research.

The faculty member will be expected to devote 90% of their time to clinical care with some flexibility depending upon the candidates overall portfolio of skills.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate of Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have an MD and have or be able eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California. and be board certified or eligible in General Surgery. Candidates must have successful completion of a fellowship in breast surgery or surgical oncology fellowship trained.

Candidates experienced in breast surgery of both benign and malignant conditions is sought. Candidates must have breast cancer research experience and familiarity in conducting clinical trials. Candidates must have demonstrated both the ability to work with the community and the ability to take initiative in the development of a breast surgical practice. Candidates must be able to work as team member within the comprehensive breast program.

Preferred qualifications

Candidates with experience with the Veteran's Administration are preferred.
