Position description

The Department of Music at the University of California San Diego invites applications for an Assistant Professorship (full-time/ tenure-track) to begin July 1, 2022 with an innovative creative practice informed by music of the African Diaspora. The successful candidate's work could encompass composition, performance, and emerging forms of interdisciplinary practice. They will contribute to graduate programs in composition, performance and Integrative Studies. Undergraduate teaching would include courses contributing to our emphasis in Jazz and Music of the African Diaspora and general education offerings. Depending on interests, the successful applicant might also teach in our ICAM program or lead ensembles. Within the department they might also participate with colleagues in our Improvisation Collective to develop new initiatives around their common interests. We are enthusiastic for someone in this position to also engage in Black Studies initiatives in other parts of campus, including the African American Studies Major, the African and African American Studies Research Center, and the Black Studies Project.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A terminal degree (PhD, DMA, MFA) in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience. ABD applicants are welcome.
