Position description

The Department of Music at the University of California San Diego invites applications for an Assistant Professorship (full-time/ tenure-track) to begin July 1, 2022. The ideal candidate will have a strong profile as a composer whose creative practice engages creatively with technology. We are understanding technology expansively here: the successful applicant could have experience in computer music research, DIY electronics, intermedia work, live electronics or any combination thereof. On a graduate level, the appointee would be expected to teach courses that support the interdisciplinary character of the department, with a focus on creative practice applications of media technology in addition to seminars based on the candidate's research interests. On the undergraduate level we expect that the successful candidate would teach courses within our ICAM major and the Music Technology emphasis, along with some technology-focused general education teaching. UCSD has a storied history as a center for development of computer music and audio technology and we have excellent facilities and the successful candidate could also work in collaboration with other places on campus including Qualcomm Institute.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A terminal degree (PhD, DMA, MFA) in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience. ABD applicants are welcome.
