FACULTY POSITION AT SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY, UCSD – Ocean Acoustics

Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California San Diego (http://scripps.ucsd.edu) invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor position with a research focus on observational ocean acoustics. Of interest are all aspects of acoustics in the ocean including but not limited to: marine physics and the theory/modeling of sound propagation underwater including interaction with the boundaries, computational ocean acoustics, the sources and spatial/temporal structure of ambient sound, the application of innovative signal processing and machine learning approaches to acoustic data collected at-sea, and acoustic sensing technology development. The successful candidate also will be expected to contribute to teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in the SIO Department.

We seek a motivated, broad-thinking scientist-educator to establish a vigorous research program and provide intellectual leadership in their field while complementing existing expertise at Scripps and other UCSD departments. SIO is a world-renowned center of marine research with approximately 200 principal investigators leading research programs on all aspects of earth, ocean, biological and atmospheric sciences. SIO is part of the University of California, San Diego, which is one of the top research universities in the world. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD in Oceanography, Physics, Engineering or a related field.

Preferred qualifications

Preferred candidates will have demonstrated the capacity to develop/maintain an innovative sea-going research program. Candidates should also have potential for (or demonstrated record of) mentorship of both graduate and undergraduate students, teaching excellence, and/or leadership.
