Position description

The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health (FMPH) at the University of California, San Diego’s School of Medicine (http://fmph.ucsd.edu), is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

We invite applications for one or more faculty positions from those interested in an academic career involving the practice and teaching of full spectrum family medicine to medical students and residents. Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient care, obstetrics, and outpatient procedures depending on Department need.

The Department also offers opportunities to teach and mentor in UCSD’s Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree program. Collaboration is also possible with faculty in the new Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science as well as other School of Medicine departments and in the basic sciences, social sciences, and engineering departments across the UC San Diego campus.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate of Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Position maybe full-time or part-time subject to funding.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have an MD or DO degree by the time of appointment. MD and DO candidates must have completed an ACGME-certified Family Medicine residency training program and be board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine. Candidates with an MD or DO must have or be eligible for a California medical license as determined by the Medical Board of California.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

At the time of the new appointment, proposed candidates must show evidence of outstanding qualifications through letters of recommendation, teaching evaluations, and patient satisfaction assessments.

Preferred qualifications

Scholarly interests and progressive accomplishment in scholarly activity or practice-based research are preferred.
