Position description
The Department of Anesthesiology (http://anes-som.ucsd.edu/) at the University of California San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and is seeking a general anesthesiologist faculty with an emphasis in the preoperative clinical setting to serve as the Medical Director for the Anesthesia Preparedness Clinic at UC San Diego Health.
The incumbent will determine risk during operative procedures by documenting medical histories, examining patients, and evaluating those patients to determine a safe and effective anesthetic plan. The Medical Director will also coordinate care with other physicians, nurses, technicians, and other levels of health care professionals, as well as reporting out to the perioperative administrative team with respect to key performance indicators. Additionally, teaching of residents and fellows and overseeing of advanced practice practitioners is required.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications
Candidates must have an MD or equivalent degree. Candidates with an MD must be board eligible/certified in anesthesiology. Candidates with an MD must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the California Medical Board.
