Position title: Academic Coordinator and Lecturer
Salary range: $72,015

Position description

The Making of the Modern World (MMW) Program at Eleanor Roosevelt College, University of California, San Diego seeks a full-time Academic Coordinator. This is primarily a non-lecturing academic leadership position requiring management experience within an academic program in higher education. This is a 12-month (not academic year) appointment.

MMW is the core general education program of UC San Diego’s Eleanor Roosevelt College, one of UCSD’s seven undergraduate colleges. MMW offers a multi-course, interdisciplinary approach to world history (broadly defined) through which students develop skills in analysis, research, and writing. MMW is a required five-course, lower-division sequence for students entering as freshmen and a required two-course, upper-division sequence for transfer students. The program serves students of all majors at UC San Diego, the vast majority of whom are in STEM and Social Science fields. MMW is taught every term during the academic year as well as in summer session. It is also taught on Global Seminars abroad each summer. The program has an academic year enrollment of ~5000 (seats) and a summer enrolment of ~600. The program is delivered through 18 faculty, more than 50 TAs annually, and six full-time staff (a director, two academic coordinators, a lecturer, program coordinator, and program assistant).

This Academic Coordinator position oversees the upper-division transfer sequence (MMW121,122) and the lower-division ‘modern era’ courses (MMW14, 15). These courses are taught during every term both in the academic year and in the summer. Primary job responsibilities include supervising, training, and mentoring TAs; writing assignment development, implementation, and evaluation; recruiting and hiring TAs; assigning TAs to sections; leading orientations each term (with faculty and TAs); leading weekly TA meetings; managing academic integrity cases; meeting weekly with director and program staff; working with faculty to address pedagogical matters and academic issues; leading program assessment and improvement; supporting new program developments, including online instruction and co-curricular activity; participating in Eleanor Roosevelt College activities, from orientation to commencement.
