We are seeking to recruit a dynamic and innovative Pediatric Residency Program Director and Department of Pediatrics Vice Chair for Education to lead our fully ACGME-accredited pediatric residency training program and to promote scholarship focused on education throughout our department.
The UC San Diego Department of Pediatrics' Residency Program offers highly acclaimed educational programs designed to train the pediatric leaders of tomorrow. Our program offers broad exposure to both rare and common pediatric disorders with an emphasis on bedside and clinical teaching, career and personal development, and opportunities to pursue learning through research or other academic endeavors.
Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego is the major regional primary and tertiary pediatric hospital and is the clinical home of UCSD Department of Pediatrics. As the only dedicated children's hospital in San Diego and an international referral center, our broad catchment area captures patients from both urban and rural environments, as well as all socioeconomic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
The successful candidate will hold an executive position with the primary responsibility of overseeing the department's Pediatric Residency Program. The Program Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a training program that recruits top candidates and provides them with an optimal education. They must maintain compliance with ACGME standards, including curriculum development, trainee evaluation and feedback, policy development and implementation, monitoring duty hours and trainee wellness, while also assessing and documenting the competency of each trainee and continually evaluating the educational process.
The Residency Program Director will fulfill the role of Vice Chair for Education. They will assist the Chair in fostering an environment that values and promotes educational programs, serving as the chief departmental advocate for improvement in these programs. The person will interact with the School of Medicine, UCSD Health Graduate Medical Education Office, Rady Children's GME Office and other institutional educational and administrative leaders to promote educational programs and initiatives.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Associate of Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Candidates must have an MD and be board certified/eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics. Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the California Medical Board. Candidates must also have demonstrable leadership experience and substantial experience in leading a Pediatric Educational Programs.
