Position description

The Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego ( is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Department has faculty positions available at the assistant, associate, and full professor ranks in the non-tenure track adjunct professor series.

The successful candidates will have a research focus in at least one of the areas of research expertise in the department, including, but not limited to, immunity and inflammation, emerging infectious diseases, neurobiology, receptor biology, cancer, stem cell biology. In addition to conducting a robust research program, the successful candidate will teach and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and serve on departmental committees.

The Adjunct series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Appointment requires candidates to have their own research funding to cover their own salaries.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments must require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree and must have postdoctoral or equivalent experience and research funding. Candidates must have their own research funding and be able to cover their own salaries.
