The UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS) is searching for one or more postdoctoral fellows to conduct research on aerosols and climate, or land use change, food security, and climate. The fellow(s) will join an interdisciplinary team at UC San Diego working broadly on climate and food security connections, and especially the role of non-CO2 emissions in this system. Fellow(s) will be supervised by Prof. Jennifer Burney, with potential co-supervision by others, depending on background and professional goals.
We are seeking exceptional candidates with experience in integration and analysis of disparate types of high-dimensional data (e.g., pollution data, atmospheric reanalysis data, remote sensing data), a track record of creative thinking, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and communication. Comfort with programming and statistical analysis of environmental data are essential, as is a willingness to generously learn and teach within and across the disciplinary boundaries of our collaboration. Because aerosols, climate, and food insecurity disproportionately affect certain subsets of the population, and so we also seek candidates who are passionate about environmental and health justice, in addition to espousing a commitment to excellence through diversity within the university.
PhD in a relevant earth or environmental science field (including but not limited to: climate, earth systems, physics, data science, natural resource economics, etc.) and a research track record in the relevant domain by the start of appointment.
