Position description

The Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) in the Division of Health Sciences at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. SSPPS accepts only post-baccalaureate students, has a joint curriculum with the UC San Diego School of Medicine, and is competitive nationally for the top tier of pharmacy school applicants. Current enrollment is 240 Pharm.D. Students, 60 Ph.D. students, and 25 pharmacy residents. The NAPLEX national board exam passing rate for first time takers among our students has been approximately 100% since the first graduating class. The School is ranked among leading pharmacy schools in its research endeavors and grant funding. A large proportion of its graduates engage in post-graduate training and pursues joint degrees. SSPPS is based at the world-renowned La Jolla campus of UC San Diego with year-round access to both winter and summer recreational activities. UC San Diego Health System is the only academic medical center in San Diego providing leading-edge patient care, biomedical research, education and community service through two hospital locations and a network of outpatient facilities. UC San Diego Health System is a designated Level 1 Trauma and Regional Burn Center; Joint Commission accredited Stroke Center, and provides comprehensive cancer care at the Moore’s Cancer Center. In 2020-21, UC San Diego Health System is ranked in the top 50 in the nation by US News and World Report in 16 adult specialties; the Health System is ranked first in San Diego metro area and sixth in California.
UC San Diego is forging an exciting new paradigm for engagement and collaboration between Health Sciences, STEM and Social Sciences/Arts & Humanities. This recruitment is part of a campus-wide hire of 13 faculty positions and unites Pharmacy with African American and the Black Diaspora Studies through innovative research, coordinated teaching, and targeted service. Faculty will have multiple opportunities to engage with scholars across UC San Diego disciplines to address issues of race and racism, access and equity, and social and political influences focused on the intersection of Pharmacy, Public Health and African American Studies, while also working within their home departments and professional communities.
The Division of Clinical Pharmacy in the University of California, San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) (http://pharmacy.ucsd.edu) is recruiting for outstanding applicants at the Associate or Full Professor level in the Ladder Rank or Clinical X series with expertise in pharmacoeconomic, social and/or administrative sciences. A particular focus on health disparities faced by African American patients is desirable.
Basic qualifications are:
-Ph.D in Health Sciences, Public Health, or related field.
-Appropriate clinical license eligibility IF applicant has PharmD or MD
-Research focus health disparities by African American communities/patients desirable
-Research experience in pharmacy practice in health disparity with funding support or funding potential
-Teaching experience in didactic courses across undergraduate and professional school levels. A unique opportunity is available for faculty holding these positions to design an exciting undergraduate course within the African American Studies Minor (AASM, https://af-amstudies.ucsd.edu ).
-Interdisciplinary and/or collaborative activity demonstrated from clinical experience, projects, or publication records
-Strong record or evidence of plan for strong record of creative activity or innovative practice/teaching/research/mentoring.
-Demonstrates promise for academic achievement in clinical practice, teaching, and research areas
-Organizational skills demonstrated by the application content, format, and experiences.
-Leadership skills demonstrated by the experiences described in the application -Preferred candidate will have research, teaching, and service advance anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity, and justice in health-related areas. -Demonstrates an inclusive stance on mentoring and advising that incorporates working with women and underrepresented racial minority undergraduate and graduate students. -Demonstrates experience with or the desire to engage in interdisciplinary conversations and scholarship across UC San Diego disciplines.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded. As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited.
